CMA9 OBIE UK Report, April. And a third of APIs still under perform.

CMA9
Competition and Markets Authority

In March, we published a report on the UK’s public CMA9 Open Banking APIs V2 from the OBIE. IN it, we found that more than 35% of the APIs offered were performing below our expected acceptable score of 800. And we’re sad to say, the numbers for April are essentially unchanged, with 32% of APIs scoring below 800.

When we analyse the banks, we find that the under-performing banks have largely remained the same. Although there’s a new entrant – Bank of Ireland – which has historically been one of the better performing. It had a significant issue in mid-April that caused a drop in overall quality.

Danske remains solidly out-performing the other banks, holding the top spot for another month. However, when we look at the higher scores, all the banks have slipped, over the course of the month. In March, 40% of the banks reviewed had average CASC scores for their APIs over 900, indicating high quality service. In April, that number had dropped to just 10% scoring over 900.

These are public APIs. We can and should have a high expectation of quality. Only through having a transparent, 360-degree view can the banks understand where they stack with other providers ,and be able to take the steps necessary to provide the public with a quality service.
