Latest Google PaLM API News

On February 6, 2023, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google and Alphabet, announced the introduction of Bard. While this was a new concept, it’s worth mentioning that the AI chat service behind Bard has actually been powered by Google LaMDA for the past two years.

In essence, Bard operates similarly to ChatGPT with one key difference: it utilizes information from the web. Like other AI chatbots, Bard can perform calculations, solving mathematical puzzles, and assisting with writing tasks. For its initial release, Bard incorporated a lite model version of LaMDA as it offered better scalability and required less processing power.
Transformer technology served as the foundation for both LaMDA and GPT-3— which powers ChatGPT—and was publicly introduced by Google in 2017. Additionally, Google utilized PaLM 2—a recently developed language model—to build Google Bard.

This model was made available in December 2022 and is built on the latest version of Transformer along with Google’s previous LaMDA technology designed specifically for dialogue applications.

Bard is a search-oriented platform that focuses on natural language queries rather than traditional keyword searches. Its AI capabilities allow for conversational interactions, providing context-rich responses instead of simple answer lists.

Bard is designed to handle follow-up questions seamlessly or initiate entirely new searches. Users can leverage Bard’s integration with various Google apps and services, such as YouTube, Maps, Hotels, Flights, Gmail, Docs, and Drive to apply its functionalities to their own content.

Unlike ChatGPT, Bard has access to internet-wide information and can reference current events and trends; however, it’s important to note that not all the information provided by Bard is guaranteed to be entirely accurate.
Moreover, what sets Google Bard apart from other chatbots are its essential features. When crafting responses, Bard generates three different drafts for each one. To view alternative answers, users can simply click on “View other drafts.” One draft may include a specific recipe for a meal, while another might present a slightly modified version of the initial response.

Additionally, users have the option to select “Regenerate drafts” and allow Bard to provide another answer altogether.

Google is currently working on several plans for the future of Bard. One of their goals is to make Bard more accessible and available to a global audience by expanding its language capabilities.
Additionally, they are committed to improving Bard’s capabilities in generating text, translating languages, and creating diverse types of content.

Google also aims to integrate Bard with other Google products and services, making it easier for users to access and utilize this tool within platforms such as Gmail, Docs, and Drive.
Furthermore, Google is exploring the development of new features and tools for Bard that will enhance its usefulness and versatility for users. These potential additions include features related to code generation, creative writing assistance, and research support.
